Every five years, the central associations representing employers and employees propose their representatives, who are then appointed by the federal government as members of the Minimum Wage Commission.
Chair
The chairperson is appointed on the basis of a joint proposal by the umbrella organizations representing employers and employees. The appointment is made by the federal government. If no joint proposal is submitted, the federal government appoints one person on the recommendation of each party. In this case, the chairmanship alternates after each decision (after two years). The first chairperson is chosen by lot.
6 voting members
The voting members are appointed by the federal government on the recommendation of the umbrella organizations representing employers and employees. Each umbrella organization recommends three members.
2 advisory members
In addition, two academic advisory members are appointed by the Federal Government on the recommendation of the umbrella organizations of employers and employees. They shall come from the academic community, must be independent, and contribute their scientific expertise to the consultations.
