Regulations for internships

Interns are entitled to the statutory minimum wage. However, there are exceptions.

One exception are mandatory internships as part of school, vocational training, or university studies. The minimum wage does not apply to these.

For voluntary internships to support training or studies, as well as orientation internships lasting up to three months, trainees or students do not receive the minimum wage.

The minimum wage also does not apply to young people participating in entry-level training as preparation for vocational training or other vocational training preparation under the Vocational Training Act.
