Functions of the Coordination Office

The Minimum Wage Commission receives technical and organisational support in the performance of its tasks from a business and information centre.

This applies in particular to the statutory evaluation mandate and the adjustment of the level of the minimum wage, in which the Minimum Wage Commission is supported by the scientists at the Secretariat. The criteria for the evaluation of the minimum wage as part of the Minimum Wage Commission's report are set out in Section 9 (4) MiLoG (Minimum Wage Act).

The evaluation must analyse the effects of the minimum wage on the protection of employees, competitive conditions and employment. The effects on employment are to be analysed on a sector and region-specific basis. The ongoing evaluation should also look at the effects of the minimum wage on productivity.

The office also liaises with the customs authorities and the relevant federal ministries regarding the effects of the minimum wage.

The office is also responsible for the editorial and technical preparation of the report on the effects of the statutory minimum wage. As the office of the Minimum Wage Commission, it is also responsible for preparing, organising and recording the minutes of the Commission meetings.

As part of its function as an information centre, the office offers employees and employers information on the subject of the minimum wage.
