Adjustments by businesses in reaction to the increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros

The project looks at short-term effects of the minimum wage increase to 12 euros on affected businesses and in particular at their planned and already implemented responses to it. In addition, the bureaucratic costs of the required documentation of working time will be measured. For these purposes, a representative sample of about 1,000 establishments with at least one regular employee and, in addition, up to 1,000 minimum wage establishments will be surveyed.

The occurrence of undeclared work before and after the increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros

The project examines whether there have been changes in the supply of and demand for undeclared work as a result of the increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros. For this purpose, a representative sample of 1,000 employees will be surveyed in three waves.

Effects of the Statutory Minimum Wage on Collective Bargaining

The project investigates the relationship between the statutory minimum wage and the behaviour of collective bargaining parties, using qualitative methods. For this purpose, actions and strategies of collective bargaining actors in industries particularly affected by the minimum wage will be examined in the period from 2020 to 2022. The reactions of collective bargaining parties to the increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros in October 2022 will receive particular attention.

Survey of businesses affected by the minimum wage based on the IAB Establishment Panel

The project examines the economic situation of businesses affected by the minimum wage in 2022 using the IAB Establishment Panel. Among other things, the analyses will show how many establishments in Germany are affected by the increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros, depending on industry, company size and region, and descriptively compare various business parameters between affected and unaffected establishments.

Analysis of wages and working hours of minimum wage workers during the pandemic

The project uses the survey waves of the years 2020 and 2021 of the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) for determining earnings and working hours of minimum wage workers during the pandemic, with a special focus on periods with short-time work.

Effects of the minimum wage on employment and unemployment

The project examines the employment and unemployment effects of the minimum wage using the regional bite of the minimum wage, differentiated by sociodemographic characteristics, company indicators and economic sectors. Effects of the minimum wage introduction and of minimum wage increases are analysed until mid-2022.
